The Garden Cat

This painting began with a simple moment.

When I photograph my finished works, my black cat often comes over and sits quietly next to them. He doesn’t do anything special — he just stays there for a while, as if the painting is part of his space too. That quiet presence stayed with me and slowly found its way into this work.

In “The Garden Cat,” the figure of the cat is placed within a network of branching lines and soft color fields. It is not meant as a portrait, but as a familiar presence — something grounded within a composition that otherwise feels open and shifting.

The painting moves between structure and freedom. Fine linear elements suggest branches or growth, while the background unfolds in soft blue tones, layered with greens and subtle pink accents. Some areas feel controlled, others more fluid, allowing the image to remain slightly unresolved.

I work with acrylic paint and spray paint to build up the surface step by step. Some marks are intentional, others happen more freely. Depending on the light and the distance, different parts of the painting come forward or recede.

The work is painted on a heavy 100% cotton canvas (460 g/m²), using professional acrylic paints by Golden and spray paint by Amsterdam. It is finished with a glossy varnish by Lascaux, which deepens the colors and protects the surface. The edges are painted as a continuation of the composition.

The painting is stretched on a wooden frame and ready to hang. It is carefully packed in a sturdy box with protective layers. The artwork is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
