Just Falling - 100 × 50 × 2 cm / 39.4 × 19.7 × 0.8 in
There’s more bare linen in this painting than colour. I could have filled the canvas more densely - the way I often do, layer over layer, branch over branch. Here, I didn’t.
The roses fall down the canvas sparsely, with wide gaps between them - yellow, rose-pink, against silvered grey. The space between them isn’t waiting to be filled. It already is what it needs to be.
Looking at this work feels, to me, less like looking at a garden in full bloom, and more like noticing the pauses between things - the ones that usually pass unnoticed, too quick to catch.
Sometimes restraint isn’t holding back. It’s its own kind of generosity.
