In Japan, pink has never needed translation. It belongs to cherry blossoms — sakura — and to a specific, aching beauty: not despite its shortness, but because of it. The blossoms open for barely two weeks each year, and their falling is celebrated as intensely as their arrival.

In this painting, petals scatter across a lavender-to-violet field, some still attached to branches, others already adrift — mid-fall, caught before they land. Roses in soft yellow-white and pale pink emerge from deep, near-black centers.

Hanami — the practice of viewing blossoms — was never about owning the flower. It was about being present while it was still there.
