Through the Leaves
I didn't have to look for this one. I was sitting on my balcony, gardens on every side, fresh flowers on the table with their buds still green, and after weeks of exhausting heat, it had finally turned cool and grey and started to rain. Everything I needed was already right there.
That's where the green in this painting comes from. It's not a background choice, it's the color of relief itself, the exact feeling of air finally breaking after a long heatwave. I painted the roses in that same green instead of the reds or pinks they'd usually wear. They fold into the leaves around them, almost hidden, in no hurry to be noticed.
Silver spray moves across the canvas like rain caught mid-fall: cool, scattered, unhurried.
Through the Leaves is what happens when you stop searching for inspiration and just look at what's already in front of you. Nothing here was invented. It was simply noticed.
