Green in Japan has never meant permanence. It means the leaf before it darkens, the thing still in the middle of becoming itself — an eternity made not of preservation but of return. That's a completely different promise than the one jade makes, and it's what this canvas is built on.
Where the first work in this series held that stone-cold certainty of forever, this green refuses to settle. It moves from near-black to almost luminous depending on where you stand — never the same twice, the way youth itself never looks the same twice.
The roses are pale, some open, some still closed. I didn't arrange them into a statement. I left each one at whatever stage it reached. Branches end mid-gesture.
My hand sets the direction and nothing else. Where a branch lands, whether a bud opens, how far the light travels into the paint — my work lives in the space between control and its absence, and this is what that looks like when the subject is youth.
