Green like this holds heat that has already sunk into soil - no longer visible, but still working underneath. If Ember is the coal, this is what happens after: warmth moving down into the ground and turning into growth. The base is built in deep, mossy greens layered one over another until dark reddish tones surface between the leaves, the way rust shows through dark soil after rain. Roses open in cream-yellow and magenta-pink, thick with paint, holding light the way something does when it has just broken through the surface. Small pink buds trail along the thinner branches, still closed, shaped one by one with a small knife. The reddish undertone in the green is the same red that runs through Ember, just buried now, doing different work.
