The mist across this canvas isn't decoration behind the flowers - it's where the painting actually starts. Soft rose and warm, dusty beige settle into the linen in uneven clouds, thinning in some places, gathering into deeper warmth in others, so the raw fabric still catches the light through the thinnest patches.
Small five-petaled blossoms in blue and pale cream rest within that haze, carried by thin, uneven branches. They don't sit on top of the background so much as belong to the same breath of color.
This piece marks a shift in how I build a canvas, starting from atmosphere before any flower is placed, then working into it slowly, by hand, once the ground has settled. It's less about control from the first mark and more about listening to what the surface is already doing before I add anything to it.
Veil of Light isn't meant to be read quickly. It asks for the kind of attention you'd give something half-seen through fog - patient, unhurried.
