Still Unfolding - 50 × 50 × 2 cm / 19.7 × 19.7 × 0.8 in
Strength doesn't always hold its ground. Sometimes it bends under what it's carrying, and keeps going anyway.
The branches here visibly sag under the weight of the roses. Behind them, the green I used has an iridescent quality: it shifts between a near-black depth and a faint glow depending on where you're standing and how the light falls, so the same canvas can look heavier or brighter without anything on it actually changing. I wanted something close to monochrome that still had light moving through it, fragile and strong at once, the way a branch under real weight actually is.
It's close to what presence has come to mean for me while painting: not resisting the weight, just staying with it.
Move a little in front of this one and you'll see what I mean. The shimmer isn't fixed in the paint. It depends on you being there to catch it.
