Roses, Unhurried - 100 × 100 × 2 cm / 39.4 × 39.4 × 0.8 in
There is a kind of strength that never raises its voice. It simply stays, light, unresisting, present.
Roses, Unhurried is not about blooming. It is about the weightlessness that comes just before anything is decided.
Two arcs of branches open from the corners of the canvas, carrying small roses in white and blush pink, and between them the linen itself stays bare, breathing, untouched. Nothing here pushes to fill the space. The petals seem to hover rather than rest on the branch, as if a breath could move them. Even the green behind them is soft, unfocused, more felt than seen, so the flowers read as fragile against it, almost weightless.
This tenderness is not an accident of technique. It is close to what I keep returning to in my own practice: that softness is not the opposite of strength, it is simply strength that has nothing left to prove. The painting doesn't reach for the edges of the canvas. It trusts the empty linen as much as the roses themselves.
Roses, Unhurried doesn't ask to be filled in by the eye. It asks only to be allowed its own unhurried pace, the same pace at which it was made.
