Silver Morning
Some mornings arrive without sun. The light is grey and soft, and yet everything in it seems clearer than usual.
In this diptych, a single branch grows from the lower left of the first panel, moves through mist and silver haze, and continues on the second, where it opens into the upper air. The small gap between the canvases does not break it. The eye simply carries it across.
Dark green leaves sit thick and sculptural, lifted by the palette knife, with soft pink blossoms on one side and butter yellow on the other. Behind them, grey mist and deep blue shadow are laid down in spray paint, and small pale glows drift through, like light finding its way through wet leaves before the day has fully begun.
Two panels, one quiet light. A painting for the first minutes of the day, before the mind has moved on to the next thing.
